The Sonotrope is a Virtual Reality installation and performance tool, a spatial music creation and playback system for sound-artist and dancers. It enables one to capture movement as tracks of music, resulting in an interactive music sculpture, a 3D crystallized composition as recorded multi track sound score constellation with a significant visual idiom.
Synaesthesis is the title of a performance based on the Sonotrope installation or system. It shows the confrontation of an on stage creating sound-artist and two seemingly intrusive dancers.
Sonotrope is currently a work in progress and funded by the Creative Industries Fund NL, the Mondriaan Foundation, Tropism and the lectureship of the Netherlands Film Academy. It is a research and development trajectory of initiator Robin Noorda together with Immersive Media lecturer Jilt van Moorst and sound artist Alfred Marseille. It is also part of the new VRAcademy Amsterdam.
It's theatre performance Synaesthesis will be choreographed by Heidi Vierthaler, in collaboration with dancers Luca Cacitti and Shay Partush.
